  • P95 latency per route — so you know how fast each endpoint responds for most users
  • Error rate per route separated into 4xx and 5xx — so you can distinguish client errors from server failures
  • Request volume over time — so you notice unusual traffic patterns before they cause problems
  • Recent errors with context — status code, duration, and error message for quick diagnosis

A monitoring baseline — what your API looked like before your last change — is often more valuable than the absolute metric itself. Knowing your P95 is 220ms is useful.
